Super Power Summer at Northland – Summer Reading Program begins June 11

Ages 18 and under

Join us for a summer powered with super-programs, super-crafts, super-books, and super-games. Anytime the library is open and online with Beanstack. Log your reading, activities, and earn raffle tickets on Beanstack! Visit the library for programs, storytimes, activities, and more! Log every book you read or activity you complete on the Beanstack app. Beginning June 11, sign up and log your books at home. You can also download the Beanstack Tracker App to easily log your books: Google Play or Apple App Store.

Bookshelf Bingo – Adult Summer Reading

June 1 through August 31

Summer at Northland means the return of Bookshelf Bingo! Between June 1 and August 31, read a fun variety of books for multiple chances to win great prizes. Register online at northlandlibrary.beanstack.org to get started. Starting June 1, pick up a Bingo card at the Ask a Librarian desk. The first 75 patrons to pick up a card can choose a free book from our Summer Reading book cart. Stay tuned for more information about this summer’s grand prizes!

Decreasing Bird Populations: The Conservation of America’s Bird Species

Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m.

Why are some of our favorite bird species rapidly decreasing? And what roles do habitat loss, climate change, and invasives play? Join Chris Kubiak from the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania as he discusses the loss of billions of birds and how you can help in reversing this trend by helping birds thrive in your backyard!

Registration is required for this virtual program. A Zoom link will be emailed the week of the program.

NerdCon

Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You don’t need to travel to San Diego to attend a Comic-Con. Join us for our second annual Northland NerdCon as we celebrate comics, anime, board games, role-playing, and all things nerdy! Come up with a great costume for the cosplay contest, learn how to make a character or DM an RPG, compete to see if you’re the best Mario Kart racer, or just spend some time playing games with fellow nerds! Telling Your Story: A Talk with Author James R. Hagerty

Thursday, June 29 at 2 p.m.

Veteran Wall Street Journal obituary writer and author of “Yours Truly: An Obituary Writer’s Guide to Telling Your Story”, James R. Hagerty will talk about his experience writing people’s stories and explains why and how you should preserve your own story. Registration is required for this program.

Children, ’Tweens and Teens

Family Storytime & Craft featuring: “Bathe the Cat” by Alice B. McGinty

Wednesday, June 7, at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.

A fun family storytime featuring one of this year’s Picture Book Choice Award books with Ms. Courtney! Listen to the story, sing some songs and enjoy family time while making a fun craft together. No registration is required.

Ask a Firefighter!

Tuesday, June 20, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a firefighter is like? Come find out! Visiting firefighters will answer all your questions! Registration is not required for this program for ages 12 to 18.

The Pittsburgh Zoo– Wonders of Wildlife

Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

The Pittsburgh Zoo will be visiting with their best furry, scaly, slimy, and feathery ambassadors! Both sessions will be identical. Please only register for one session. Registration is required for this age 8 and over program. All children must be able to attend independently, accompanying adults must remain in the building.

Preschool Storytime – Books by Mo Willems

June 27 at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Preschoolers will enjoy stories, songs and a craft featuring books by Mo Willems in the Learning Garden

Pavilion. No registration is required.

Peek into the sights and culture of other lands through a travel or foreign film feature. No registration is required.

Once Upon A Crime: True Crime Book Club

Third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
