Hardy Carroll Lloyd, a self-proclaimed white supremacist, will serve 6½ years in federal prison after pleading guilty to obstruction.

A self-proclaimed white supremacist accused of targeting witnesses, jurors and law enforcement during the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting trial pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in West Virginia.

Hardy Lloyd, 47, of Follansbee, W.Va., was initially charged with obstruction of justice, transmitting threats over interstate and foreign commerce and witness tampering by criminal complaint in August.

On Tuesday, Lloyd pleaded guilty to just one count of obstruction.

As part of the plea agreement, Lloyd will serve 6½ years in federal prison.

A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.

The charges stemmed from posts Lloyd made on his website in May and June during the trial of Robert Bowers, who was sentenced to death last month for killing 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill on Oct. 27, 2018.

Investigators said Lloyd wrote that he would obtain personal information about the jurors in the synagogue case and post it online “for lone wolves,” if they voted to convict Bowers.

According to the plea agreement, Lloyd also posted the names, photographs and personal information of several government witnesses on the “enemies” page of his website, also for “lone wolves.”

During the trial, police said, Lloyd traveled to Pittsburgh on multiple occasions and placed stickers, including one that had a swastika and the message “white pride” written on it, on public property.

The stickers included his website’s address.

By agreeing with the plea offer, Lloyd admitted that he chose to target the government’s witnesses because they were, or he perceived them to be, Jewish, the document said.

Lloyd has spent nearly two decades in and out of state and federal prisons in connection with weapons violations and hate speech.

He also was charged with killing his girlfriend, Lori Hann, on Aug. 3, 2004. Police said the two had an argument, and he shot her in front of a home in Squirrel Hill.

Lloyd was found not guilty of criminal homicide after his attorney argued he killed Hann in self-defense. He was convicted of carrying a firearm without a license and ordered to serve 11½ to 23 months in jail.

Then, after Richard Poplawski shot and killed three Pittsburgh police officers in April 2009, Lloyd posted to his website praising the attack.

On the blog, investigators said Lloyd, who was on probation, posted a picture of a shotgun, which gave them probable cause to search his home.

They found 10 firearms. He was charged in federal court and pleaded guilty. Lloyd was ordered to serve 30 months in prison with three years’ supervised release.

After that, he had a series of violations that led to additional charges, including circulating antisemitic fliers in Shadyside.
