A woman was struck by a Port Authority bus early Tuesday morning in Downtown Pittsburgh, according to the transportation agency.
She was struck at about 6:15 a.m. along Liberty Avenue near the intersection of Sixth Street. Police cordoned off the scene, blocking a section of Liberty Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets to traffic while investigators worked to determine what happened.
The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
A Port Authority spokesman said the front of the bus hit the woman and that she was pinned between the front bumper and the street.
The bus driver, who has worked for the Port Authority for 23 years, will be tested for drugs and alcohol, according to the transportation agency’s policy.
All traffic was being detoured from Liberty Avenue. Bus stops at Liberty Avenue and Sixth Street, and at Fifth Avenue and Wood Street, were not in service as of 8 a.m. Tuesday.
No information was available about when the street would reopen to traffic.
