A woman in her 20s was hospitalized in critical but stable condition Monday evening after being struck by a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in Oakland.

PRT spokesman Adam Brandolph said the incident occurred at the intersection of Neville Street and Fifth Avenue shortly before 7 p.m.

The 58-Greenfield bus was turning left onto Fifth Avenue and hit the woman as she was in the crosswalk, Brandolph said.

There were two passengers on the bus at the time. No other injuries were reported.

Brandolph said the bus driver was placed on paid leave. An investigation is underway. As part of protocol, the driver will undergo drug and alcohol screenings.

The woman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and her condition remained the same as of late Monday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim at this time,” Brandolph said.
