The woman who died Wednesday morning after a shuttle bus struck her in Oakland has been identified.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Emily Watson, 29, of Pittsburgh.

Watson was a UPMC employee and was struck by a UPMC shuttle while she was walking, according to the nonprofit group Bike Pittsburgh.

“Bike Pittsburgh believes that every person has the right to safely travel on our streets without fear of death or serious injury. From a legacy of unsafe street design to irresponsible driving, people are at risk every day, especially people who walk, bike, and roll,” said Eric Boerer, advocacy director for Bike Pittsburgh

At about 9:25 a.m., Pittsburgh police, firefighters and EMS responded to the intersection of Terrace Street and Sutherland Drive for reports of a pedestrian being hit, police spokeswoman Cara Cruz said.

First responders found a woman “who was unconscious and in cardiac arrest,” Cruz said. Bystanders administered CPR until firefighters took over.

Pittsburgh EMS took the woman to an area hospital where she died, Cruz said.

UPMC spokesman Rick Pietzak would not confirm whether the shuttle bus that hit the pedestrian was operated by UPMC.

“This is a tragedy for our community, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family of the deceased and with all who witnessed this terrible event,” Pietzak told TribLive. “Pittsburgh Police are leading the investigation and have our full cooperation.”

The female patient was pronounced deceased at hospital.
