Westinghouse Academy will close until Dec. 1 because a student and two staffers tested positive this week for covid-19, Pittsburgh Public Schools officials said.

All three people last were at the campus on Friday, Nov. 13, according todistrict spokeswoman Ebony Pugh. The school, located on Murtland Street in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, enrolls students from sixth grade through high school.

The district did not identify the grade level of the infected student, nor the roles of the infected staff members.

During the closure, the site’s free lunch and breakfast programs will be put on hold.

Students and their families instead can visit the “grab-and-go” food distribution from the Student Achievement Center at 925 Brushton Ave.

The announcement follows a slew of school closures and shifts to virtual learning across Western Pennsylvania and around the country as coronavirus cases continue to climb.

The majority of Pittsburgh Public Schools students are set to continue remote learning through at least early January. Others attend school in small classes on a rotating hybrid schedule.

On Wednesday, the district decided to close until Dec. 3 the Sunnyside pre K-8 campus in the city’s Stanton Heights neighborhood after a second staffer there tested positive for covid-19.

The latest staffer to contract the disease was last at the Sunnyside building one week ago and was wearing protective gear while working, district officials said.

Sunnyside students and their families can get the “grab-and-go” breakfast and lunch options at Pittsburgh Obama Academy at 515 N. Highland Ave.
