Red is the color for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel, Downtown.
The Go Red for Women movement is dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease and stroke in women all over the world.
This 15th annual event will be chaired by Kristyn Squires, senior vice-president at KeyBank. Dr. Janet Catov,PhD, MS, University of Pittsburgh and Principal Investigator at Magee-Women’s Research Institute, whose research focuses on pregnancy-related signs that may identify future cardiovascular disease, is the keynote speaker.
She will help in celebrating moms as she talks about the cutting-edge work being done at Magee-Womens Research Institute, according to a news release.
The event is expected to draw 400 guests.
“Go Red for Women encourages women to take charge of their health and advocate for better health. We want to empower and inspire women,” Squires said in a statement. “ That’s why I wanted to get involved with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement. This is a sisterhood of passionate women united by a common goal of ending cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in women. Together, we can do this.”
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined, according to the American Heart Association. To treat, beat and prevent cardiovascular diseases, Go Red for Women encourages women to understand their family health history, know their numbers and continue to make lifestyle changes like healthier food options, increasing physical activity and managing blood pressure.
Attendees can buy Mother’s Day gift ideas from the marketplace at the event as well as participate in lifesaving demonstrations and a silent auction.
