No recent covid deaths in Allegheny, Westmoreland counties; cases trending up slightly
While case numbers might be trending slightly upward, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties have gone nearly a dozen days without recording a death related to the coronavirus.
With 25 new covid-19 cases reported Wednesday, the seven-day average in Allegheny County has ticked up to 19, the highest it has been in more than 20 days, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. But the county’s death total has remained at 1,983 since July 2.
Allegheny County has reported 134 additional covid cases in the past seven days, the highest seven-day total since 154 on June 16. There have been 102,114 cases, 77,283 confirmed, since the pandemic began.
The county has 723,037 people (59.1%) with at least one dose of a covid vaccine and 661,418 people (54%) fully vaccinated. Of residents 18 years or older, 66.4% are fully vaccinated.
With 25 people currently hospitalized for covid, the seven-day average for hospitalizations has remained steady at 27 for the past 10 days.
Westmoreland County
Westmoreland County on Wednesday added two covid cases, the fewest in a week, but the seven-day total rose to 36, the highest level in two weeks, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The county is now averaging five cases per day after getting its seven-day average as low as three in recent weeks.
There have been 34,484 total covid cases, 23,167 confirmed, in Westmoreland since the pandemic began.
The county has 168,912 people (46.26%) with at least one dose of covid vaccine and 155,731 (42.65%) are fully vaccinated. Of residents at least 18 years or older, 52.13% are fully vaccinated.
The covid death total in Westmoreland County has been 779 for 11 consecutive days.
There are three people hospitalized for covid in the county, the fewest since the start of the pandemic, keeping the seven-day average of daily hospitalizations between five and seven for the past two weeks.
Pennsylvania
Covid cases are trending upward statewide with Wednesday’s 273 additional cases helping raise the seven-day case average to 229, Pennsylvania’s highest in more than three weeks.
The state added 13 covid-related deaths, the most new deaths in two weeks, bumping the seven-day average to 54, the highest since July 3, according to data from the Department of Health. A total of 27,772 people have died of covid-related illness to date.
There are 245 people hospitalized for covid across the state, with the seven-day average (265) at its lowest since the early days of the pandemic.
Since the pandemic began, Pennsylvania has seen 1,214,927 cases, with 1,017,019 of them confirmed.
