With college tuition rising at local institutions, many families are put in difficult situations. Do they pay an exorbitant amount and go into debt to pay for the cost of college? Do they decide to go to community college for two years and miss out on freshman and sophomore year at a four-year institution?

But at a nearby university, there is another option that many might not have considered.

Youngstown State University in Ohio – an hour’s drive from Downtown Pittsburgh — has made a significant change to help reduce the cost of out-of-state tuition. Beginning in Fall 2021, Youngstown State’s $6,000 out-of-state tuition surcharge has been reduced to just $360 per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters only. Does not include summer term). This savings of more than $5,600 applies to both incoming and current students holding out-of-state residency.

When choosing a university, the cost can often be the deciding factor. Youngstown State University works diligently to meet the educational and financial expectations of the students and their families. This new benefit allows out-of-state YSU students to pocket those extra dollars and use them to their advantage.

Founded in 1908, YSU offers over 150 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. With more than 12,000 students, a 14:1 student to faculty ratio is maintained, with an average class size of 21.

A high-quality education at an affordable price has always been the goal at Youngstown State. There are scholarships available, as well as an already low tuition rate. Additional financial assistance is available to those in need. Millions of dollars are distributed to YSU students every year. The University is committed to helping students achieve educational success without draining their bank accounts.

The new reduced out-of-state surcharge offer extends beyond Ohio’s neighboring states, with students across the United States now able to take advantage of this offer. Visit ysu.edu/tuition-financial-aid for more information.

If you have not applied for the Spring 2022 semester, there is still time. The Youngstown State University Office of Admissions is standing by to answer any questions and help guide through the enrollment process.
