Pennsylvania reports 725 new cases of coronavirus
Pennsylvania health officials on Sunday reported 725 additional covid-19 cases, bringing the statewide total to 95,414.
The data section of the state Department of Health’s website was down for maintenance Sunday and because of that only new cases were reported, according to a news release emailed Sunday evening.
Earlier in the day, the state’s website reported seven new deaths and 577 cases of covid-19, but those numbers were removed from the site when it went down because of maintenance.
The numbers will be updated Monday, state officials said.
All 67 counties in the state have cases of covid-19.
“As the entire state is now in the green phase, we must remain committed to protecting against covid-19 by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and avoiding large gatherings,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a press release.
“Pennsylvania has been a model for the country on how to reopen effectively using a careful, measured approach,” Levine continued. “However, the virus has not gone away, and we are seeing cases rise, especially in Southwest Pennsylvania.”
As of Sunday, 829,018 Pennsylvania residents had tested negative for the virus. There are also 635 people who are considered to have probably cases.
Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:
- Nearly 1% are ages 0-4;
- 1% are ages 5-12;
- Nearly 3% are ages 13-18;
- 8% are ages 19-24;
- 37% are ages 25-49;
- Nearly 24% are ages 50-64; and
- 26% are ages 65 or older.
There are significant increases in covid-19 cases among younger age groups, especially among 19- to 24-year-olds, officials said.
In Southwestern Pennsylvania, the 19 to 24-year-old age group accounted for just over 5% of cases in April, but accounts for more than 25% of the cases so far in July, the health department said.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 18,258 resident cases of covid-19, and 3,471 cases among employees, for a total of 21,729 cases at 748 facilities in 57 counties. Out the total deaths, 4,706 have been residents from nursing or personal care facilities, according to the health department.
