Investigators searching a Lancaster County family’s home last week discovered 18 pets without proper medical care or shelter, as well as thousands of grams of marijuana and 13 guns.
Austin, Jordan, Scott and Heide Breland are facing animal neglect, drug and gun charges after the Jan. 13 search of their West Colebrook Street property in Manheim Borough, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
Sixteen cats and two dogs were rescued from the Breland family’s home and taken into the custody of the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA), prosecutors said.
Several of the animals had medical conditions that needed veterinary care. None of them had clean or sanitary places to live, according to the district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said 3,284 grams of marijuana, two digital gram scales, two boxes of sandwich bags, used vacuum-sealed bags with marijuana residue, 73 marijuana vape pens and 32 marijuana gummy packs were found in the Breland family home.
Investigators also allegedly found 13 rifles and handguns, ammunition and $3,488 in cash.
The search of the Breland property came after Manheim Borough police received multiple complaints about allegedly unlawful activities.
The Lancaster County Drug Task Force and PSPCA investigated the case.
