A 74-year-old man was killed in a skydiving accident in Monroe County on Sunday morning.

Ed Harney, of Paramus, N.J., was found dead in a wooded area in Smithfield Township, near East Stroudsburg, WNEP is reporting.

According to reports, Harney’s parachute opened, but it got separated from him during his descent. Witnesses saw him disappear into the wood line.

Harney’s friends told police he was an experienced skydiver and had jumped many times before.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, WFMZ is reporting.

He had jumped with three other experienced skydivers from a plane with Sky’s the Limit Skydiving Center, reports indicate.

They jumped from about 14,000 feet, and it appeared Harney’s parachute was the first to open, but he began spiral and spin until he was separated from his parachute, reports indicate.

An autopsy is set for this week.
