98 new troopers join Pennsylvania State Police
The State Police Academy in Hershey this week graduated 98 cadets as part of its 159th class, and a number of the new troopers are headed to work in Western Pennsylvania.
Uniontown will receive nine troopers, the most of any barracks in the state. Three were assigned to Greensburg.
“(Troops) are assigned based on need,” said Ryan Tarkowski, a state police spokesman in Harrisburg. “There really is no specific reason, just overall needs of the department.”
Tarkowski explained that graduates get to put in their top three location choices.
“They really try to accommodate troopers as best as they can,” he said. “When you come out of the academy, you go where the department needs you. It’s one of the commitments that these cadets make.”
