Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court has established its own Twitter page, @CommCtofPA.

During the flurry of legal activity in Pennsylvania following the results of the November election, the state’s Commonwealth Court staff was firing out press releases at a record pace as cases were heard and decided.

Now, the public will have a better chance of following the court’s activity by way of its new Twitter account, @CommCtofPA.

Through the page, the Court will provide information on upcoming proceedings, links to public documents as well as administrative updates as available.

“Social media has become a critical way for organizations to disseminate timely and accurate information – and the courts are no exception,” President Judge P. Kevin Brobson said. “Connecting with the public through Twitter will allow us to further our commitment to making the Commonwealth Court transparent and accessible to court users and the public.”

The Commonwealth Court was established in 1968 and is one of Pennsylvania’s two statewide intermediate appellate courts. It has subject matter jurisdiction over state and local government matters. It also acts as a trial court when lawsuits are filed by or against Commonwealth officials and Commonwealth agencies.

Appellate cases are generally heard by panels of three judges in Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, although, on occasion, the court sits in other locations.

While most proceedings have been held virtually due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, the court plans to return to in-person proceedings as soon as circumstances allow.
