Democratic governor candidate Josh Shapiro says he has covid
Attorney General Joshua Shapiro, the presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, announced that he has tested positive for covid-19.
He tweeted that Monday night, before heading to Johnstown and Pittsburgh, he took a precautionary covid test.
“I’m experiencing some mild symptoms and will continue serving the people of Pennsylvania as I isolate at home,” he posted to Twitter Tuesday morning, about 90 minutes after the polls opened in Pennsylvania.
He then urged everyone to get out and vote, saying “after these few days at home, I’m going to go win this race for Pennsylvania.”
Shapiro is unopposed in his campaign to become the Democratic nominee. He will face off in November against the winner of the Republican primary.
He is the second candidate to be put out of action on election day due to health concerns. Lt. Gov. John Fetterman announced Monday that he’s suffered a stroke Friday. He said there was no cognitive damage and he is expected to fully recover, but was expected to remain in the hospital Tuesday.
