Members of Congress confirmed Joe Biden’s presidential win early Thursday morning, but not without first deliberating on proposals aimed to discredit the results of the contentious 2020 presidential election.
The U.S. Congress voted on proposals that objected electoral votes from Pennsylvania and Arizona, key battleground states.
Both proposals were rejected.
Here’s how politicians from Pennsylvania voted on the matter:
U.S. Senate
What the Senate voted on: To object the certification of Pennsylvania’s electors.
Total Senate vote: 92-7
Sen. Pat Toomey rejected the attempt to discredit Pennsylvania’s election results. He said it was not Congress’ responsibility to judge a state’s election process.
“Mr. President, Joe Biden won the election,” Toomey said Wednesday night at the Capitol. “It’s not what I had hoped for, but that’s what happened. It was an honest victory. With the usual, minor, irregularities that occur in most elections.”

What the House voted on: To object the certification of Pennsylvania’s electors.
Total House vote: 282-138
Republican representatives from Pennsylvania said they’d object the election results, and they followed through with their votes.
“We must acknowledge that unconstitutional acts unduly impacted the presidential election in Pennsylvania,” said Rep. John Joyce, R-P.A., on the House floor.
