Pennsylvania’s state-run liquor department has opened a limited-release lottery, giving an opportunity to purchase 814 bottles of rare whiskey to those who register.

The lottery includes hundreds of rare bottles from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection 2022 Release, as well as just a handful of bottles of Michter’s Straight Bourbon Limited Release 20 Year Old, which costs more than $1,100 each.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) is holding three separate lotteries to purchases rare whiskeys: first for the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, then for 10 bottles of Michter’s Straight Bourbon Limited Release 20 Year Old, and the final lottery for over 300 bottles of Blanton Straight From The Barrel Bourbon, a brand owned by Buffalo Trace Distillery.

All the rare whiskeys hail from Kentucky.

There are five different whiskeys in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, including 480 bottles of rye whiskeys and bourbons. All are aged for at least 15 years and cost $109.99. Winning entries are limited to one bottle per participant. And if a participant wins a bottle in a drawing within this lottery, they will be removed from subsequent drawings in the lottery.

Participants can enter both the lotteries for The Michter’s Straight Bourbon Limited Release 20 Year Old ($1,149.99) and Blanton Straight From The Barrel Bourbon($149.99), but there’s a limit of one bottle per winner from each lottery for purchase.

The three lotteries will be held in succession and participants may opt in to one, several, or all of these lotteries and drawings, according to PCLB. Both Pennsylvania residents and liquor licensees are open to the lotteries, and separate bottles are allocated for residents and licensees. A larger percentage of bottles are allocated to residents than to licensees.

Interested parties have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, to opt in to one or more of the lotteries and/or drawings by visiting the Limited-Release Lottery web page at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits website.

The PLCB said entrants should be aware of the terms and conditions of the lotteries because they have recently been updated.
