A Pennsylvania couple who allegedly spent $120,000 that was mistakenly deposited into their bank account were arrested and charged this week with four counts of theft.

Robert and Tiffany Williams of Montoursville made their first court appearance Monday.

Authorities said the money was accidentally transferred to the couple’s bank account in May when a BB&T bank teller in Georgia typed in the wrong account number during a bank transaction.

The Lycoming County couple quickly splurged on a camper, a Chevy SUV, a racer and two ATVs, state trooper Aaron Brown told the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. Authorities said they also handed out $15,000 to friends who needed the money.

The couple allegedly admitted to investigators they knew the money was not theirs but spent it anyway.

The Williams’ face up to 10 years in state prison for each four felony charges.

“All I’m going to say is we took some bad legal advice from some people and it probably wasn’t the best thing in the end,” said Robert Williams.

No trial date was set.
