With temperatures dropping quickly as fall arrives, it’s a good time to stock up on booze and hunker down for the season, and Pennsylvania state-run liquor stores are incentivizing shoppers with a 50% clearance sale on select whiskey, wine, vodka, gin, and other spirits.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s clearance sale started Oct. 3 and includes about 3,300 different items ranging from premium wines, tequila, scotch, brandy, mixers, and more.

PCLB spokesman Shawn Kelly said Fine Wine & Good Spirits is like any other retailer, and sometimes surplus items build up in their stock. He said PCLB has clearance sales somewhat regularly, but believes this 50% sale is one of the biggest that the state stores have had.

“We have to make room for the products that we offer for the holidays,” he said Wednesday. “We are just looking to make some space, and we figure this is a great opportunity for Pennsylvanians to enjoy products that don’t go on sale very often.”

According to the Fine Wine & Good Spirits’ website, the cheapest items are an array of mini bottles of spirits, like Jim Beam whiskey, for 49 cents and the most expensive are red wine, like Australian wine Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz Eden Valley 2012, which are selling for about $400, marked down from about $800.

Kelly encouraged shoppers to shop in-store, since every state store will likely have slightly different items on sale. He said for hard to find items, shoppers should order online.

PCLB offers free shipping on sales over $99.

The clearance sale is in addition to ongoing sales at the state stores.
