Pennsylvanians have until the end of May to renew driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and inspections that were scheduled to expire between March 16 and April 30.

The new May 31 deadline applies to the following, according to PennDOT:

• Driver’s licenses, photo identification cards and learner’s permits expiring from March 16 through April 30;

• Vehicle registrations, safety inspections and emissions inspections expiring from March 16 through April 30;

• Disabled parking placards scheduled to expire from March 16 through April 30.

For CDL license holders, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued multiple waivers and guidance relating to medical examiner’s certificates until June 30, according to PennDOT. Details are available on the website.

All driver’s license and photo license centers in the state are closed until further notice. All driver’s license exams scheduled on or before Friday have been canceled. PennDOT said the exams can be rescheduled online when the centers reopen.

Motorcycle training clinics have been postponed.

The Department of Homeland Security has postponed enforcement of Real ID for one year, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 1, 2021. PennDOT has suspended issuing Real IDs.

The Transportation Security Administration will accept driver’s licenses and identification cards that expired after March 1 at airport security checkpoints, according to PennDOT. Details are available online.

All PennDOT district and county maintenance offices are closed, and construction projects have been suspended. PennDOT said crews will perform critical functions and emergency maintenance as needed.

Information on PennDOT’s actions and service changes is updated online.
