Pennsylvania added 2,577 more coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest total in the past four days.
The additional cases bring the state’s total to 938,411, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The state also added 69 deaths to increase that total to 24,169.
Philadelphia had the most new cases in the state with 279, followed by Allegheny (186), Montgomery (147), Lancaster (142) and Bucks (136). Allegheny County had the most newly added cases in the region with 186 to grow to 77,239. Here’s how the rest of the region fared, with the change from Tuesday:
- Armstrong: 4,918 (+4)
- Beaver: 12,336 (+37)
- Butler: 14,013 (+35)
- Fayette: 10,528 (+20)
- Indiana: 5,104 (+5)
- Somerset: 6,696 (+6)
- Washington: 13,795 (+29)
- Westmoreland: 26,938 (+74)
Of the 69 deaths newly reported Wednesday, eight are from March, 57 are from February, three are from January and one is from December. Four of the deaths occurred in Allegheny County, with three in Westmoreland, two in Washington and one apiece in Beaver and Somerset.
Pennsylvania currently has 1,648 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 357 in the ICU and 186 on ventilators.
The state’s 1,563 nursing homes and personal care homes have seen 67,348 covid cases among residents and 13,208 among employees. There have also been 12,546 covid deaths in those facilities, accounting for almost 52 percent of the state’s total deaths.
