Pennsylvania on Friday reported 3,987 additional cases of covid-19, keeping the seven-day average below 4,000 for the eighth consecutive day.

The state’s seven-day case average has been trending mostly downward since peaking above 10,000 in mid-December. It currently sits at 3,797.

Of the newly reported cases, 3,337 are confirmed via PCR tests.

The state has logged a total of 888,256 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began in March. Of those, 768,085 are confirmed and 120,171 are listed as probable.

Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

There have been 3,744,326 people in the state who tested negative for the virus.

Pennsylvania added 99 additional covid-related deaths to bring the total to 22,959, according to the Department of Health.

The state reported 720 deaths linked to covid in the past seven days, the fewest in that time frame since early December.

There are currently 2,548 people hospitalized across the state for covid-19, with 496 of those in intensive care units and 286 using ventilators to breathe.
