Pennsylvania coronavirus deaths rise to 647 as total cases top 26,000

Coronavirus deaths in Pennsylvania crested 600 on Wednesday, though the total number of new cases remained below 1,200 for the second straight day.

In numbers reported throughout Tuesday, 63 more people died from the virus statewide, bringing the death toll to 647. The Department of Health reported 1,145 new cases. The running case count stands at 26,490.

About 111,100 people have tested negative for the virus, which first appeared in the state March 6.

Allegheny County reported two more deaths and 11 new cases Wednesday morning, bringing the county death toll to 26 as cases surpassed 900.

Westmoreland County officials reported three more deaths, upping the death toll to 18. The state data, which has consistently lagged, according to county coroner Ken Bacha, lists deaths at 11. The county added six new cases for a total of 237.

Indiana County reported its first death. The case count there is 43. Washington County reported its first death on Tuesday.
