Pennsylvania man says rise in tornadoes caused by traffic circles

The Keystone State has had more than the expected number of tornadoes so far this year and explanations often involve El Niño or climate change.

But at least one resident of the northeast corner of Pennsylvania is blaming them on something else: traffic circles.

A news program on WNEP-TV in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre allows viewers to express their opinions leaving voice messages. The station then airs them in a segment they call TalkBack.

One of the more original responses this week was a man who explained the recent increase in twister activity this way:

“We didn’t have tornadoes here until we started putting in the traffic circles. Cause, on account of — you want to know why? When people go round and round in circles, it causes disturbance in the atmosphere, and causes tornadoes.”

Is he serious about the roundabouts? You can watch the whole segment here:

Naturally, social media is having fun with this.
