Pennsylvania officials report 54 new covid-19 deaths statewide
The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday reported 54 new covid-19 deaths and 495 new cases in the state. The statewide total is now 83,191 cases, including 632 probable cases, and 6,515 deaths.
According to the Department of Health, the most severe cases are seen in patients over the age of 65 and more than half of the cases in Pennsylvania are seen in patients age 50 or older.
There have been 17,394 cases in residents, 3,103 cases in employees and 4,467 deaths in nursing and personal care homes. These deaths account for 68.6% of the state’s deaths. To date, 671 nursing facilities have been affected by the virus.
Health care workers account for 6,303 coronavirus cases in the state. Of those who have tested positive, 77% have recovered from the virus, state officials said. Across Pennsylvania, 608,217 people have tested negative for the virus.
