Pennsylvania posts 1,000-plus new covid-19 cases, third highest this month

Pennsylvania has 1,029 new coronavirus cases Saturday, according to the state Department of Health.

In addition, 22 new deaths were reported.

The new cases and deaths bring their totals to 155,232 and 8,103, respectively.

The positivity rate for new cases is 6.8% from 14,924 tests.

Saturday’s new cases represent the highest number of new cases this week and the third highest this month. Thus far in September, there have been five days when new reported cases have exceeded 1,000. In comparison, there were no 1,000 case or more days in August and six in July.

Allegheny County reported 106 new cases and Centre County reported 162 new cases Saturday. Allegheny County started the month at about 10,350 cases and has now increased to 12,101 cases. Centre County started the month with about 500 cases and has now increased to just under 2,400 cases.

In the state, there are currently 444 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 60 on ventilators.

According to the state’s covid-19 data, an estimated 82% of covid-19 cases have recovered.
