Pennsylvania reports 1,376 new coronavirus cases, 27 new deaths

Pennsylvania on Thursday reported a third day of over 1,000 new covid-19 cases, along with 27 new deaths attributed to the coronavirus.

The state Department of Health reported 1,376 cases, the highest single day increase in cases since April 30. That brings the total number of cases to 167,928 since the the state started tracking cases in March.

The state Department of Health reported 27 new deaths attributed to coronavirus after posting 28 on Wednesday and 17 on Tuesday. The state total stands at 8,299.

Of the 27 deaths, 19 are from October, seven from September and one from August.

The biggest jump in cases on Thursday was in Philadelphia County with 205. Allegheny County reported an increase of 127 cases, while Centre (94), Berks (75) and Westmoreland (69) also saw significant increases.

The department stated that 210,227 tests were administered within the last 7 days between Oct. 1-7 with 7,585 positive cases. There were 32,653 test results reported to the department through Wednesday.

More than 2.15 million people in the state have been tested for the virus. The overall positivity rate is 7.8%.

The state dashboard shows that there are 687 people currently hospitalized with 76 on ventilators.

According to the state, there are 23,611 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes, and 5,229 cases among employees, for a total of 28,840 at 999 distinct facilities.

Of the total number of deaths, 5,239 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 11,160 of the total cases in the state are among health care workers.

The Department of Health advises that if people have or think they have covid-19, they should stay home and keep away from others.
