Pennsylvania reports 1,566 new covid-19 cases, 25 new deaths

Pennsylvania on Friday reported 1,566 new cases of covid-19 and added 25 new deaths to its total.

The cases are from a batch of 15,413 new test results, with 13,847 of those being negative. The state’s daily positivity rate is 10.16%, the highest it has been since May. The new positive tests were from Oct. 7-Oct. 15, according to the Department of Health.

The state now has 179,086 cases since reporting began in March. There have been 2,103,044 people who tested negative for the coronavirus.

The 25 new coronavirus-related deaths bring the state’s total to 8,457. There are currently 830 people hospitalized for covid-19 in the state, with 80 patients on ventilators. There are 4,985 ventilators in the state and 1,144 are in use for all illnesses.

The state reported 1,560 cases considered probable with a positive viral antigen test and 646 patients with a positive serology test and either covid-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure.

The total covid-19 cases break down into these age groups:

Approximately 1% are ages 0-4.

Nearly 2% are ages 5-12.

Nearly 5% are ages 13-18.

Nearly 14% are ages 19-24.

Nearly 36% are ages 25-49;

Approximately 21% are ages 50-64.

Approximately 21% are ages 65 or older.

There are 24,334 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes plus 5,342 cases among employees. The total cases at 1,015 distinct facilities is 29,676. Of the state’s total deaths, 5,603 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities, according to the Department of Health.
