Pennsylvania on Wednesday added 193 coronavirus deaths, the highest number of deaths reported on a single day this month.
The total number of covid-related deaths in the state stands at 23,319.
The newly reported deaths come after only seven were added Tuesday and 23 on Monday. The seven-day average of deaths ticked up to 574, but has been mostly trending down this month.
The state Department of Health also reported 3,413 additional cases, which comes after three days of lower numbers of cases.
The state’s seven-day average is at 3,194 cases, and the state’s seven-day total cases is 22,359, both slightly higher than Tuesday’s figures. The seven-day average has trended down in February. It is down 16% from last Wednesday and down 41% since the beginning of the month.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is at 902,650.
In Allegheny County, there were 215 new cases recorded, bringing their total cases to 73,813, while Westmoreland saw 47 new cases for the day, bringing their total cases to 26,040.
The total number of new cases in other Southwestern Pennsylvania counties are: Armstrong (9), Beaver (64), Butler (41), Fayette (46), Indiana (12), Somerset (7) and Washington (33).
Philadelphia County had the most new cases in the state Wednesday with 422, followed by Montgomery (238), Lancaster (225) and Allegheny.
More than 3.7 million people in the state have tested negative for the virus.
Hospitalizations for covid in Pennsylvania continue to drop. According to the state covid dashboard, the number of residents who are hospitalized for the virus is 2,174, down 182 from Tuesday, which was down 91 from Monday.
Hospitalizations jumped on Sunday (adding 99), but otherwise the month has seen a steady decline. The were 3,280 people in the hospital on Feb. 1, which is 50% more than current levels.
