Pennsylvania recorded more than 200 new cases of the coronavirus in one day, state health officials said Tuesday.

The 207 new cases brought the statewide total to 851, including 58 cases in Allegheny County. Deaths in the state are now at seven — a second person in Allegheny County died Tuesday. The victim was identified late Tuesday as Ofelia Rousseva, 78, of Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood.

Armstrong County reported its first case of covid-19. ACMH Hospital in Kittanning reported the case but did not release details about the patient or their condition.

Testing for covid-19 at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium parking lot Monday resulted in an additional 10 positive tests, Central Outreach Wellness Center officials announced Tuesday evening. More than 600 people were screened and just over half were ultimately tested.

The state Department of Health reported 11 cases in Westmoreland County.

A woman who is a long-term resident of the Loyalhanna Care Center in Derry Township is among Westmoreland County residents who have tested positive for infection with the coronavirus.

Kelly Pynos, administrator of the skilled nursing facility near Latrobe, said the woman exhibited symptoms on Monday and was transferred to a local hospital. Pynos received word Tuesday afternoon that the woman had tested positive for the virus. As of early Tuesday evening, she said, none of the other 99 residents had displayed symptoms consistent with coronavirus infection.

She said residents are having their temperatures taken three times daily. Anyone who exhibits symptoms will be confined to their room.

She said the facility has been following no-visitation guidelines since March 13. Staff have been encouraged to change clothes when they enter and when they leave the building, she said.

Bradford, Carbon, Clearfield, Juniata and Somerset also reported the first cases, according to the state’s numbers.

Washington County recorded two more cases, and Butler recorded one, bringing the totals to nine and six, respectively. Fayette County also reported one new case, for a total of two.

The virus has been confirmed in 40 of the state’s 67 counties.

It’s the biggest one-day increase since the first case was identified in the state March 6, and tops the increase of 165 cases from Sunday to Monday.

“We expect to see these numbers continue to increase each day,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine, “which underscores the need for all of us to stay home.”

She reiterated that the pleas for residents to stay home is aimed at preventing a large surge in the number of hospitalized patients, which officials have said could collapse the state’s health care systems. She said about 70 of the state’s patients are hospitalized.

Officials said Monday there are 3,400 intensive care unit beds in hospitals across the state, and about 40% are open.

Levine said the department is continuing to track those numbers along with the number of new cases and the number of coronavirus patients who have been admitted to the ICU or who require ventilators. The department is not, however, tracking recoveries.
