After reporting no new covid-19 deaths in the state Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced 23 new deaths Tuesday.
The new reported deaths are the highest in a seven-day span. In that time — July 29 through Tuesday — reported deaths were mostly below 20 each day. The state coronavirus death total now sits at 7,232.
Coronavirus deaths in Pennsylvania skew older, with those 80-89 years old being the age group with the most deaths (2,243), according to latest state data, followed by the 90-99 age group (1,779) and those 70-79 years old (1,544).
Covid-19 cases in Pennsylvania went up to 854 on Tuesday, after two days in which new cases were below 700 each day. New cases have remained under 1,000 since July 28 when 1,120 cases were reported.
Allegheny County reported 132 new covid-19 cases Tuesday and Philadelphia County reported 131 new cases.
The state case total is now 115,009.
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, 656 of those with covid-19 are hospitalized, with 100 of them on ventilators. The state Department of Health estimates 75% of covid-19 cases have recovered in Pennsylvania.
