Pennsylvania reports 28 more coronavirus deaths, 730 additional cases
Pennsylvania on Sunday reported 28 more covid-19 deaths and 730 additional cases, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 67,713, according to state health officials.
A total of 5,124 people have died from the virus. Those deaths have been reported in 54 of the state’s 67 counties.
Positive cases have been reported in all 67 counties. More than 328,300 people have tested negative for the virus.
Nursing and personal care homes account for 25% of the state’s total cases. Roughly 65% of the deaths have occurred in residents from such facilities, state officials said.
More than 5,000 of the total cases are in health care workers.
According to state officials, 17,064 covid-19 cases have been reported at 591 distinct facilities in 44 counties. There are 14,607 resident cases and 2,457 employee cases.
As of Sunday, 49 counties, including Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, had been moved to the yellow phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s re-opening plan.
“As counties move from red to yellow, we need all Pennsylvanians to continue to follow the social distancing and mitigation efforts in place,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a news release. “We must continue to protect our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, which includes our seniors, those with underlying health issues, our health care workers and our first responders.”
Levine continued, “I am proud of the work that Pennsylvanians have done so far, but we cannot stop now, we must continue to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from covid-19.”
