Pennsylvania reports 2nd most new covid-19 cases, most new deaths since May

Pennsylvania reported 8,291 new covid-19 cases Wednesday, per the state Department of Health.

The new cases represent the second-highest amount of new daily cases reported. To this point, the most new cases came Nov. 26 when 8,425 were reported.

For the second consecutive day, the state also reported the highest amount of new covid-19 deaths since May.

On Wednesday, 194 coronavirus-related deaths were reported, after 180 deaths were reported Tuesday. The two-day total, 374, is the highest since 399 deaths were reported between May 14 and May 15.

Total cases and total deaths in Pennsylvania are now 375,431 and 10,757, respectively.

In the state, there are currently 4,982 covid-19 patients hospitalized, with 1,048 in the ICU and 565 on ventilators, according to data from the Department of Health.

The most new covid-19 cases Wednesday came from Philadelphia County with 1,324 new cases, more than doubling its Tuesday case count of 619 cases. After Philadelphia County, the most cases came from Allegheny (508), Delaware (398), Montgomery (390) and York (373).
