Sample collection for covid-19 tests are administered at a Central Outreach Wellness Center testing site in the parking lot of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium on March 24, 2020.

State health officials reported hundreds of new coronavirus cases on Monday, pushing the state’s running case count above 57,000.

The 543 new cases were reported between 12 a.m. Sunday and 12 a.m. Monday, and they bring the statewide total to 57,154 since the first cases were identified on March 6.

The death toll in the state reached 3,731 on Monday with 24 more deaths reported.

State health officials have said Mondays often see a lower case count because of a lag in reporting from over the weekend. Still, the 543 new cases mark the lowest single-day increase in the state since March 29, when there were 643 new cases reported.

In Allegheny County, eight new cases bring the county’s total to 1,511, and one newly reported death brings that total to 123.

Westmoreland County reported one more case for a total of 418, and the county coroner has reported 32 deaths from the virus.

Across the state, 231,704 people have tested negative for the virus.
