Pennsylvania reports 547 new coronavirus cases, 20 new deaths

Pennsylvania reported 547 new coronavirus cases and 20 new deaths on Monday.

The new data brings the total cases to 139,863 and the total number of covid-19 deaths in Pennsylvania to 7,780.

The state Department of Health said that 161,316 tests were administered the last 7 days between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6 with 5,838 positive cases. There were 16,494 test results reported to the department through Sept. 6.

There were no deaths reported on Sunday, though there were 18 deaths Saturday attributed to the coronavirus after posting 10 on Friday.

Over 1.6 million people in the state have tested negative for the virus; in total 1.74 million have been tested for the virus in the state.

The overall positivity rate is 8%.

As of Sunday, 82% of people who tested positive have recovered from the virus, according to the state covid-19 dashboard.

Allegheny County added 39 new cases, while Westmoreland saw 9 additional cases.

The state dashboard shows that there are 495 people currently hospitalized with 57 on ventilators.

According to the state, there are 21,430 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes, and 4,613 cases among employees, for a total of 26,043 at 947 distinct facilities.

Out of the total number of deaths, 5,240 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 9,901 of the total cases in the state are among health care workers.

The Department of Health advises that if people are gathering to celebrate Labor Day, to be sure to take precautions, like wearing a mask, washing hands and practicing social distancing.
