State Rep. Torren Ecker, R-Adams, listens to testimony during the Pennsylvania House Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order hearing in Philadelphia.

A state lawmaker was involved in an alcohol-related crash late Tuesday evening in Huntington Township, Adams County, according to state police.

State Rep. Torren Ecker, 37, of New Oxford, was traveling south on State Route 94, a hilly two-lane rural road that connects Carlisle and Hanover, when his car drifted off the roadway and struck a guardrail, disabling the vehicle, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation. Results from a blood-alcohol level test have not returned, police said.

In a statement, Ecker, who is in his third two-year term in the House of Representatives, said, “Most importantly, I am relieved that my lack of judgment did not result in any injury to others or myself. I take responsibility for my actions. To my family, constituents, and colleagues, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible behavior and ask for your forgiveness.

“”As this process moves forward, I will accept accountability and seek to restore the trust so many have put in me.”

Ecker, a Republican who represents the 193rd legislative district that includes parts of Cumberland and Adams County, also is a lawyer.

During his five years of House service, Ecker has offered a number of criminal justice-related and public safety bills, helped lead the fizzled effort to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, fought against former Gov. Tom Wolf’s covid-19 business closure orders. This session he is championing a constitutional amendment requiring voter ID.
