2 Kennywood roller coasters make 'tallest, scariest' list
Just in time for summer, two Kennywood roller coasters — one wooden, one steel — make the Pennsylvania Tourism Office’s list of the 10 “tallest and scariest” roller coasters in Pennsylvania.
Coming in at No. 3 is Phantom’s Revenge, a steel coaster that reaches speeds of 85 mph and a height of 160 feet. The coaster won a 2018 Golden Ticket Award from Amusement Today magazine, ranking No. 13 in the list of Top 25 steel roller coasters in the world.
Coming in at No. 10 is Thunderbolt, a wooden coaster that reaches speeds of 55 mph and a height of 70 feet. The coaster also won a 2018 Golden Ticket Award, ranking No. 15 in the list of Top 25 wooden roller coasters in the world.

The tourism office notes Pennsylvania has more roller coasters rated in the top 100 than any other state or nation. “Pennsylvania just might be considered ‘coaster central,’ ” the office said.
Kennywood is in the process of building its eighth roller coaster, the Steelers-themed Steel Curtain, which is expected to open this summer.
