Pennsylvania Waste Industries offering cash for cleanup

Clean-up volunteers Kristin Metcalfe and her son, Dylan, 12, work their way down Saltsburg Road collecting several bags of trash and debris. The Metcalfes have volunteered for the community cleanup in the past and said this was the cleanest the roadways have been. The 4th annual Plum Community Clean-Up day was held in celebration of Earth Day on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Cleaning up your community could prove to be lucrative.

In conjunction with the Great American Cleanup of PA initiative, Pennsylvania Waste Industries is offering cash prizes.

The group is holding a video contest for those registered. The video must creatively document their cleanup efforts.

Cash prizes are $200 for the winning entry and $100 each for two runners-up.

The submission deadline is June 7.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is calling for individuals and groups to register community improvement events before the Great American Cleanup of PA ends on May 31. Registered events receive free cleanup supplies of bags, gloves and vests, while supplies last.

“There have been hundreds of events across the state so far this year. Now is the time before the vegetation completely takes over and makes it difficult to see and get to the trash,” said Michelle Dunn, statewide coordinator of the annual program. “People can simply organize their own local event or join an event in their area. It’s never too late to clean and beautify your community.”

To register an event or for more information about the video contest, go to www.gacofpa.org.
