Georgia-based Perdue Foods has recalled more than 68,000 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen chicken nuggets that may be contaminated with wood.
The recall applies to 22-ounce plastic bags of gluten-free Perdue Simply Smart Organics breaded chicken breast nuggets with a “best by” date of Oct. 25, 2019. The bags, which bear the UPC bar code number 72745-80656 and display establishment number P-33944 inside the federal inspection mark, were shipped to retailers nationwide, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday.
The company notified federal officials Thursday that it had received three consumer complaints about wood in the product. Another complaint was reported through the FSIS monitoring system.
There were no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming the product, officials said. They advised consumers to throw away the product or return it to the place of purchase.
Those with questions about the recall may contact Perdue Consumer Care at 877-727-3447.
