Police have confirmed that a 3-year-old child fatally shot an infant in the head on Tuesday night.

Lancaster Bureau of Police said the shooting was reported around 7 p.m., at a home on Woodward Street. A baby had been shot in the face and was unable to be saved by first responders.

Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Eric Bieber has confirmed that the victim was a 15-month-old boy, but has not named the baby. Bieber said the baby’s autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Witnesses and involved people have been identified and interviewed, police said, and the investigation is ongoing.

WGAL reported that the baby’s grandfather said the 3-year-old is also a relative.

Investigators do not have anyone in custody connected to the shooting, according to police.

Anyone with information that could be helpful to the investigation is asked to call the Lancaster Bureau of Police at 717-735-3301 to speak with an officer.
