Police investigating reported sexual assault at Penn State fraternity
State College police are investigating a report Tuesday of a sexual assault that allegedly occurred Jan. 15 at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
The unknown victim, who is reportedly a student, shared with a third party being sexually assaulted by four unidentified fraternity members. The report was filed 8:31 a.m. Tuesday through an online submission to the university’s sexual assault reporting tool.
Also Tuesday, Penn State sent out a Timely Warning of the incident, an action required by the Clery Act to alert the university community of a potential or ongoing threat.
In a statement provided by Penn State spokesperson Lisa Powers, the university said its Office of Sexual Misconduct is also investigating. Other “appropriate offices” were notified of the assault report and are assisting in contacting Alpha Epsilon Pi leadership and the fraternity’s national organization “to seek more information, as further action is contemplated.”
Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity is located at 240 E. Prospect Ave. in State College. The property had two open nuisance ordinance violations as of Jan. 15 for improper storage of refuse, according to the borough’s nuisance property administration report.
The fraternity also had one organizational violation classified as “other,” according to the Spring 2019 Penn State Interfraternity Council Chapter Score Card.
Penn State encouraged anyone with information about the assault to contact State College police at 814-234-7150.
