Altoona-based Sheetz today said it will invest $28.5 million in employee wage increases and give new mothers 12 weeks off with full pay.

Sheetz said the pay increases will be effective Feb. 12 for “the majority” of its 18,000 employees. Sheetz did not elaborate on how much the wage increases will be.

Sheetz said that in 2016 it provided $15 million in pay raises and in 2019 paid $16.8 million in wage increases.

“Our employees are the heart and soul of this company,” said Travis Sheetz, President/COO of Sheetz. “Sheetz is committed to investing in our people and attracting and retaining top talent.”

Sheetz also said it has updated its parental leave policy to provide 12 weeks of fully paid time off for new mothers and two weeks of fully paid time off for partners.

Sheetz operates 620 stores throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina. Sheetz has more than 20,000 employees and nearly 1,300 open positions.
