A Massachusetts business is recalling about 200 pounds of lentil and beef soup for toddlers shipped to Pennsylvania and four other states and Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced.
Kettle Cuisine Midco is recalling the ready-to-eat product because of misbranding and undeclared allergens, the department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.
The product contains egg and wheat, known allergens, which are not declared on the label. The problem was discovered when a consumer complained to the company about finding noodles in the soup, the USDA said.
The soup was produced Dec. 12. The product subject to recall is a 7-ounce cup with film containing “little dish FRESH FOOD FOR KIDS Lentils & Beef with Vegetables for toddlers” with a best buy date of Jan. 10. They bear an establishment number “EST.18468” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
In addition to Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., the soup was also shipped to customers in Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey and New York through sales on the Internet.
The USDA said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from eating the soup.
Consumers who have bought the soup are urged not to eat it. They should be thrown away or returned to where they were bought, the agency said.
