American and Pennsylvania flags at state facilities will fly at half-staff Wednesday in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day, according to Gov. Tom Wolf.

The day is meant to honor law enforcement members who died in the line of duty. A memorial service will be held in Washington, D.C. Wednesday during National Police Week.

Wolf said in an announcement that both flags at the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg and other state facilities will be lowered from sunrise to sunset. All Pennsylvanians are invited to take part.

“It takes tremendous bravery to run toward danger and to give one’s life to save the lives of others,” he said in the announcement. “As we honor the ultimate selflessness of the men and women in uniform who have lost their lives in the line of duty, we also thank those who carry on their memories and legacies.”
