A teenager was shot in the head and killed Friday afternoon following an argument in the middle of a Philadelphia street, authorities announced.

Police said the incident happened in the Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood of Frankford. The teen was arguing with another person just after 2 p.m. along the 4200 block of Romain Street.

The argument escalated, and the other person, a male, pulled a gun and fired at least two shots at the teen. One of the bullets hit the victim, also a male, in the head.

The alleged shooter then fled the area through an alley, investigators told NBC Philadelphia. He was wearing a black jacket and black ski mask.

The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:17 p.m.

Investigators later said they recovered a weapon from the victim, local television station WPVI reported.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday.

According to data released by the Philadelphia Office of the Controller, the city saw 56 incidents of gun violence between Jan. 1 to Jan. 18. Nearly 30% of them resulted in fatalities. Thirteen of those victims were Black, while the other three were Latino.
