President Donald Trump took to social media Sunday night to urge Pennsylvanians to vote against retaining three Democratic justices on the state Supreme Court.

In separate posts on Truth Social, Trump also endorsed numerous members of Congress, including U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly and Guy Reschenthaler of Western Pennsylvania, although they aren’t up for reelection until next year.

Three Democratic justices on Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court — Christine Donohue of Pittsburgh, David Wecht of Indiana Township and Kevin Dougherty of Philadelphia — are up for retention votes in Tuesday’s election. All three are completing their first 10-year term, and voters will vote “yes” or “no” on whether they believe the justices deserve another term.

Since retention elections were created in 1968, only one justice up for a retention vote failed to be retained — Russell Nigro in 2005. This year’s retention elections have attracted plenty of attention, as Democrats are seeking to maintain their advantage on the Supreme Court bench and Republicans are looking to reverse it. Currently, five of the court’s seven justices are Democrats.

Campaign committees for the justices and outside groups spent nearly $12 million by late October to influence the outcome of the races.

“On November 4th, you can bring back the Rule of Law, and stand up for the Constitution. There are three Radical Democrat Supreme Court Justices on the Ballot for a 10-year retention. Vote ‘NO, NO, NO’ on Liberal Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“These activist Judges unlawfully gerrymandered your Congressional maps, which led to my corrupt Impeachment(s), and locked you up during COVID by closing your small businesses, schools, and churches. They let sex offenders out of prison, and ruled for Sleepy Joe Biden over and over, and interfered in the 2020 Election,” Trump added without providing specifics.

In response, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat from Montgomery County, wrote on Facebook that Trump “has zero credibility when it comes to the rule of law.”

“Remember, this is the guy who tried to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes and overturn the 2020 election, who pardoned the people who assaulted law enforcement on January 6th, and who I’ve beat dozens of times in court,” Shapiro added.

Shapiro urged Pennsylvanians to vote to retain the three Democratic justices.

Trump also has endorsed numerous members of Congress on Truth Social in recent days.

Of Kelly, a Republican from Butler, Trump wrote that the congressman “has been with us from the very beginning.”

”As a Senior Member of the POWERFUL House Ways & Means Committee, Mike understands the America First Policies required to Create GREAT Jobs, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., and Champion our Nation’s Golden Age,” Trump added.

Of Reschenthaler, a Republican from Peters, Trump said, “As the Chief Deputy Whip, Guy is working closely with me to Advance our America First Agenda.”

Trump gave both congressmen his “complete and total endorsement for reelection.”
