Nearly 1,000 Peoples Gas customers in Moon lost service Saturday morning because of a gas leak, and it might not be restored until Monday morning.

A leak at a meter on Western Avenue was repaired Saturday afternoon, Peoples spokeswoman Jackie Ziemianski said.

But gas company workers must go to each customer’s home or business to relight furnaces and appliances, she said, and that process could take until Monday morning.

As a result, the company has set up a warming center at the Moon Township Public Safety Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road. The center will be open all day and night until service is restored to all customers.

About 10 homes on Western Avenue were evacuated as a precaution, Ziemianski said.
