DNC launches website on impact of ‘Trump tax’ bill, tariffs on Pa.
The Democratic National Committee is launching a new website Wednesday to show the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and spending bill on Pennsylvanians.
TrumpTax.com “includes Pennsylvania data about the Trump Tax with one underlying truth — if you’re not a billionaire, the Trump Tax will screw you over,” said a DNC statement to PennLive.
In its release, the DNC says the Republican-backed “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” will cost Pennsylvanian households more than $1,600 while cutting taxes for the wealthy.
DNC Chair Ken Martin said in the statement that Trump is “robbing” Pennsylvanians to help billionaires while steering the economy into the ground with his haphazard tariffs.
“Donald Trump promised to lower costs on Day One, but six months into his disastrous second term, he’s robbing working Pennsylvanians to fund tax handouts for his billionaire backers,” said Martin.
“The Trump Tax is the largest redistribution of wealth and the largest cut to health care in Pennsylvania history. While Trump plunges our economy towards crisis, the Trump Tax guarantees Pennsylvanians will feel the pain from his disastrous economic agenda,” Martin said.
Martin said the DNC created the website to show Americans the “dire effects” of Trump’s policies.
“Make no mistake, Trump is a lying fraud who doesn’t give a damn about our children, grandparents, or our Pennsylvania communities,” said Martin.
Under Trump’s bill, Pennsylvania has five rural hospitals in danger of closing and residents will see their electricity bills rise by over 8%. Trump’s tariffs have so far cost Pennsylvania businesses $1.6 billion, the DNC said.
As Democrats have warned for months, funding cuts to Medicaid will force 484,000 state residents to lose their healthcare coverage and 143,000 could lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits, said the DNC. The Shapiro administration estimates more than 310,000 Pennsylvanians will lose Medicaid.
Over 22 million people across the country could see SNAP benefits cut.
“This law will affect all of us. Hospital closures and Medicaid cuts will lead to higher health care costs and hospital bills for everyone,” said the DNC. “The Trump Tax will explode the deficit by $3.3 trillion — leading to higher inflation, higher energy bills, and higher grocery and prescription drug costs for everybody.”
Republicans have countered that the bill would only target fraud and waste and those who are not entitled to benefits, such as working-aged men capable of holding a job.
