Fumble!

It has not been a great week for former Montgomery County district attorney Bruce Castor.

The lead lawyer of former President Donald Trump’s defense team during an unprecedented second impeachment trial before the U.S. Senate committed a gaffe Friday afternoon that brought some humor to the serious charges against Trump.

It’s well-known Trump claims the 2020 election was “stolen” from him, and one of the focal points of said “theft” was the state of Georgia, which he lost to Joe Biden by about 11,000 votes.

Would you believe it was stolen by a Steeler?

When referencing Trump’s infamous phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Castor referred to the secretary as “Ben Roethlisberger.” Roethlisberger, of course, is a quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tomato, tomahto.

“Let’s touch on the second absurd and conflated allegation in the House managers’ single article — President Trump’s phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Ben Roethlisberger, surreptitiously recorded.”

Ironic that in the same sentence, Castor referred to the Democrats’ allegations as “conflated,” when he morphed Roethlisberger’s name in place of Raffensperger.

Castor, despite starting the week with a seemingly disjointed message, seems to have hunkered down in defense of Trump.

Through four days of testimony, the lawyer has tried to paint the Democrats’ impeachment of Trump as political theater and trying to rid themselves of a political opponent in the future.
