The official start of spring is just less than a month away, but in the Pittsburgh region it will feel as though it’s come early. Until Wednesday, that is.

A high of 57 degrees and clear skies are expected Monday, and temperatures are expected to reach 60 degrees on Tuesday.

“We’ve had a high pressure system over us, moving in from the southeast, and it’s been keeping the rain out of our area and providing clear skies,” said Jared Rackley, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon.

Rackley said the normal average temperature in February is 29.6 degrees.

“We’re about 1 degree below our average daily temperature for February,” he said.

A rain system is expected to arrive early Tuesday and bring almost 3 inches of rain through Friday.

“We expect the possibility of flooding between both rounds of rain,” Rackley said. “Tuesday’s rain will be an all-day event.”

Rackley said if all that rain were snow, the region would see snowfall of more than 30 inches.

Winter weather will return Wednesday, with temperatures dropping and returning for the weekend. Temperatures Wednesday morning will be in the 50s, but will drop to the 30s by the evening.
